When to Get Married in the Riviera Maya
November through April is the sweet spot: dry season, warm sunny days, lower humidity, and comfortable evenings for a beach reception. It’s also peak season, so this is where booking early really pays off.
May through October brings more heat and humidity, plus the Caribbean hurricane season (June through November). That doesn’t make a summer wedding a bad idea. Rates drop, availability opens up, and plenty of couples have flawless-weather summer weddings. It does mean we plan smarter: travel insurance for you and your guests, a resort with a strong indoor backup venue, and realistic expectations. I’ll walk you through all of it.
One detail couples forget: sunset timing. A 4 p.m. ceremony in January is golden-hour magic, which means they book up fast. The same ceremony in June means everyone’s squinting for two more hours.
Can You Legally Get Married in Mexico?
Yes, and this is one of the most misunderstood parts of planning, so let’s clear it up.
A civil ceremony performed by a Mexican Civil Registry judge is fully legal and recognized in the United States and most countries worldwide. It requires some legwork: apostilled and translated documents, four witnesses, a health screening done in Mexico, and arriving a few business days before the wedding to complete the paperwork.
Because of that legwork, most of my couples choose a symbolic ceremony instead. You handle the legal marriage quietly at your local courthouse before you travel, then have the full ceremony (vows, rings, officiant, all of it) on the beach. Your guests experience a real wedding, because it is one. The only difference is which piece of paper got signed where.
