Secrets Playa Mujeres is an adults-only, all-inclusive resort near Cancun with a range of wedding venues, packages that scale from an elopement to a full multi-day celebration, and a family-friendly sister resort next door. Here’s what the spaces are like, how the packages differ, and the guest-list detail most couples get backwards.
Wedding spaces at Secrets Playa Mujeres
Fair warning: I saw these as empty spaces, not as weddings. Nothing was set up the day I walked through. So I can tell you what each one is and who it suits, and I’ll tell you plainly when you’re better off seeing it yourself.
The gazebo faces the water and is the classic choice — it’s the image most people have in mind when they say “destination wedding.”
The beach is the big-guest-list option, and it handles a ceremony, a cocktail hour or a full reception.
The over-water spot at the infinity pool is the one I’d point you toward for a micro-wedding or an elopement with a few witnesses. It’s built for a small group and it doesn’t work stretched.
The ballroom is your weather backup, and I’d want it in your back pocket regardless of the forecast. Cancun does what it wants.
For receptions and cocktail hours, there are several terraces and a garden, plus a fire pit space that suits a looser after-dinner hour. There’s also a restaurant that converts for private receptions — it’s called Ayara now, though Hyatt’s own venue lists and most wedding sites still call it Bordeaux. Same room, new name and concept after the renovation.
For getting ready, there’s a bridal room at the spa and a salon alongside it. Worth asking about the number of styling stations early — when the whole wedding party needs hair in the same window, that’s the real constraint, not the size of the room.
Tip: pair a beach or gazebo ceremony with a terrace reception. Two different backdrops in one evening, and your photos won’t all look like the same room.
Why Couples Land here
Secrets Playa Mujeres sits inside a private, gated community north of Cancun, close enough to the airport that your guests aren’t spending half a day in a van. It’s adults-only and all-suite, and it reopened in early 2026 after a full renovation. I walked the property afterward — if you want the resort itself, [I wrote that up separately](INTERNAL LINK: Secrets Playa Mujeres Review: What the 2026 Renovation Actually Changed). This one’s about the wedding side.
Two things make it work for a wedding. There are more ceremony and reception spaces here than most resorts offer, so you’re not bending your vision to fit whatever room is free. And there’s a family-friendly resort next door that solves a guest-list problem — though not in the direction most people assume.
The sister resort, and the part people get backwards
Dreams Playa Mujeres is right next door and it’s family-friendly. Hyatt sells the pairing as two resorts in one, and guests staying at Secrets get free-flow access to Dreams — more restaurants, more bars, more pools, a waterpark.
Here’s what trips couples up. Secrets is adults-only. Children staying at Dreams can’t attend a ceremony held at Secrets. So the setup doesn’t work the way most people picture it when they first hear about it.
What it does give you is real, though. If kids are on your guest list and you want them at the ceremony, you hold the wedding at Dreams and put your adults-only crowd at Secrets, where they can walk over for everything else. One celebration, two room blocks, nobody stuck at the wrong resort — just not in the direction the brochure implies.
And one thing I confirm every single time: adult guests staying at Dreams crossing over to Secrets isn’t spelled out in Hyatt’s agent materials, and access can be restricted during private events. I get it in writing for your dates before anyone books a room. I’m not going to let you build a guest list on an assumption.

The packages, in plain language
They scale, and the jumps between them are bigger than the names suggest.
Just the two of you. A symbolic ceremony, hair and makeup, flowers, photos, cake and a private dinner. Quietly one of the best values on property.
A small group. The ceremony, your on-site coordinator, flowers, cake and a toast. Here’s the part worth knowing: this one becomes complimentary if you book a longer stay in a higher room category, or if a modest number of rooms are booked across a few nights. Most couples clear that second threshold without trying, and plenty of people book online and pay for a package they’d have gotten free. Ask me before you book anything.
A mid-sized wedding. Adds the officiant, a rehearsal dinner, ceremony décor and sound, a private cocktail hour with live music, a private dinner reception, photos, video and a couples’ spa treatment. This is where it starts feeling like a wedding weekend rather than a ceremony.
A full celebration. Welcome cocktail party, rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and a reception with a private bar, plus resort credit for every guest. It books about a year out and it carries a room-night commitment — if the group doesn’t hit it, the package unwinds and you rebuild it piece by piece. Worth understanding before you commit.
South Asian weddings. There’s a dedicated package with a certified coordinator, a decorated mandap, baraat coordination, a full sangeet and mehndi, and a reception menu built by a chef specializing in Indian cuisine. It also books about a year out.
Vow renewals have their own package, and it can be complimentary with a longer stay.
Every one of these can be customized. They’re starting points, not ceilings, and taxes and gratuities are already built in. I’ll price your dates properly — the rates shift by season, by day of the week, and every December, so anything you read online is a guess until someone checks.
The honest part
I’d rather tell you this now than have you find it in month nine.
A symbolic ceremony is not a legal marriage. The entry-level packages include a symbolic ceremony — officiated, meaningful, not legally binding. Having it legally performed in Mexico means adding a judge, translation, an apostille, blood work and witnesses, each of which carries its own fee, plus a paperwork timeline you need to start early.
Plenty of couples handle the legal piece quietly at home before and do the symbolic ceremony here. That’s not cheating. It’s simpler, and no one will know the difference, unless you tell them.
Guests staying elsewhere need a day pass. There’s a fee to attend just the ceremony and a higher one for a full day. Worth knowing before you tell a cousin to “just come for the ceremony.”
Outside vendors carry fees. Bringing your own photographer or hair and makeup artist means a per-service charge on top of what you’re paying them. The resort works with established photo and video teams whose coverage ranges from the ceremony hour to the full day, and sometimes that math favors using them.
Cancellation windows are real, but smaller than people fear. Once a wedding is confirmed it can’t be canceled inside six months without a penalty, and the penalty scales with the size of the package. It’s not the number people brace for. It’s just a reason to be sure of your date before you lock it.
None of this is a dealbreaker. It’s the stuff that turns into stress when it shows up late.
Want to see it first?
There’s a site-inspection program for couples deciding between resorts. You meet the on-site coordinator to talk cake, décor, music and menus, and you tour every ceremony and reception space.
Couples will receive credit to use towards wedding extras for wedding events, Bach party and honeymoon if booked 30 days of return date.
There’s a catch worth knowing — that credit doesn’t stack with the complimentary packages, so it’s worth working out which is actually worth more for your group before you choose. That’s a conversation, not a chart.
If you’re weighing two or three properties, this is the fastest way to know.
What I actually do
You’ll have an on-site coordinator at the resort handling day-of details. That’s their job and they’re good at it.
Mine is everything around it: the room block, the guest bookings, the arrival coordination, the person who books outside the block and wrecks your count, the questions your cousin emails at 11 p.m., and the honest conversation about whether the package you’re looking at matches the wedding you’re describing.
The goal is that you get to be a guest at your own wedding instead of the event manager.
Let’s talk
If Secrets Playa Mujeres is on your list — or you’re still narrowing things down and want a second opinion, start the conversation. I’ll walk you through the process, tell you honestly whether this resort fits what you’re picturing, and point you somewhere better if it doesn’t.
You can always reach out with questions, even if you’re a year out. Especially if you’re a year out.
