At the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula, where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific, the scenery goes cinematic: granite cliffs, cactus-studded hills, the famous Arch at Land’s End, and water in shades of blue that look invented. Add nearly year-round sunshine, some of the shortest flights from the western U.S., and a resort scene built for celebration, and you can see why Cabo weddings have a following.
For my Arizona couples, one more point: Cabo is the shortest international hop of all five destinations in this series. Your guests can leave Phoenix after breakfast and be toes-in-the-sand by early afternoon and for my Midwest couples, it is often nice direct flight.
Two Towns, One Corridor, and the Pacific Side
Los Cabos is really four zones, and your resort choice starts here:
- Cabo San Lucas: the energy end. The marina, the nightlife, the Arch, and Médano Beach, the famous swimmable stretch. If your group wants to go out, this is the side to be on.
- The Tourist Corridor: twenty miles of coastline between the two towns, where many of the marquee resorts sit in their own quiet pockets with big Sea of Cortez views.
- San José del Cabo: the artsy, historic end, with a charming downtown, gallery district, and the airport minutes away.
- The Pacific Side: west of Cabo San Lucas, wilder and more dramatic, where the sun actually sets over the ocean.
When to Get Married in Cabo
Here’s Cabo’s superpower: it’s a desert, so it’s the driest, most rain-proof destination in this series. October through June is gloriously reliable: sunshine, low humidity, and warm days with cooler desert evenings (your guests will want a light layer for a winter reception, which nobody expects from Mexico).
Whale season is the bonus round. Gray and humpback whales fill these waters from mid-December through mid-April, and a whale-watching morning or a sunset cruise past the Arch makes an unforgettable guest activity right in the middle of prime wedding season.
Late August through September is the honest caveat: it’s hurricane season’s peak on this coast, plus the hottest, most humid stretch of the year. If those dates are the ones that work for you, we plan accordingly: travel insurance, flexible thinking, and a resort with solid indoor options. And if you’re wondering about seaweed: no. Sargassum is a Caribbean thing. Cabo’s beaches don’t see it.
Can You Legally Get Married in Cabo?
Yes. A civil ceremony with a Mexican Civil Registry judge is legally binding and recognized in the U.S., with the standard homework: documents, witnesses, a local health screening, and a few extra days in-country. Most of my couples keep it simple with courthouse paperwork at home and the full celebration here. Either way, I’ll map your route step by step.

Hushed, adults-only, wellness-minded, with golf next door and a sunset ceremony that’s the real thing, not a colored sky behind the buildings. Best for couples who want calm, quiet drama and the only true over-the-ocean sunset vows in Los Cabos.

Grand Velas Los Cabos
The hat trick: if you’ve read my Riviera Maya and Puerto Vallarta guides, you know this family, and this is the one I’ve stayed at myself. The AAA Five Diamond standard, the all-suite indulgence, the dining worth planning around: I can confirm it’s all real, with corridor views of the Sea of Cortez as the backdrop. Best for couples who want Cabo’s finest without leaving any generation off the list. The tiered pools are stunning and I still think about the quaint seaside dinner with the most amazing molten chocolate desert. No lie-SO good.
Grand Fiesta Americana Los Cabos
Classic elegance on the corridor, terraced into the hillside with sweeping sea views and championship golf as the neighbor. It’s traditional in the best sense: gracious, unhurried, and built for celebrations that skew timeless rather than trendy. Best for couples picturing a refined wedding with a golf day on the itinerary.
Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos
The multigenerational workhorse near San José del Cabo: a full family all-inclusive minutes from the airport and the art district’s charming old town. Pools for every age solve Cabo’s swimming question on-property, and the kids club buys the adults a long lunch. Best for big mixed-age guest lists that want easy logistics and something for everyone.
Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos
Out in the Diamante development on the Pacific side, and my husband and I have stayed here ourselves. I really liked the resort layout- with thought out spaces for wedding & events. Pool areas that were entertaining and quiet and the Zen restaurant was really good.
Big ocean views and the brand’s signature built-in energy: music, entertainment, and group infrastructure that swallows a large wedding block without blinking. Best for large, lively guest lists that want their wedding week to feel like a festival.

Can you actually swim at the beach in Cabo?
The most important honest answer on this page: at many Cabo beaches, no. Strong currents and undertow make much of the coastline look-but-don’t-swim, which is why resort pools here are so spectacular. The swimmable exceptions (Médano Beach in town, plus protected coves like Chileno and Santa María) are real, and some resorts sit on or near them. When we pick your resort, swimmability is one of the first filters I apply, because your guests deserve to know before they pack.
What is there for guests to do between wedding events?
Cabo shines here. A group sunset cruise past the Arch (it makes a phenomenal floating rehearsal dinner), snorkeling at Chileno Bay, sportfishing charters in the marlin capital of the world, the Thursday art walk in San José del Cabo, and whale watching in season. I can weave optional group outings into your wedding week so guests have adventures waiting without you managing a single signup sheet.
Does Cabo get hurricanes?
It can, mainly late August through September, though far less often than its reputation for sunshine suggests: this is the driest destination in this series by a mile. For any date, I recommend travel insurance for you and your guests; for late-summer dates, we simply plan with more care. Honest risk, honest plan.
How far in advance should we book?
Twelve to eighteen months for the pick of winter and spring dates, when whale season and snowbird season make Cabo’s calendar competitive. Working on a shorter runway? Ask me anyway. I’d rather tell you the truth about what’s open than let you guess.
